Team Izzat was formed in January 2004 by Sgt Jet Sunner and members of the Lower Mainla nd RCMP. This team was formed in response to the increase in youth violence and crime among South Asian youth. Our focus is to change the negative portrayal and stigma associated with South Asian youth and their connection with crime. To reach this goal, we targeted the South Asian elementary schools, the temples, mosque s and other community centers. Team Izzat works with ALL Youth from every background.

By reaching out to young members of the community in this way, we have been able give youth an opportunity to engage in sports and receive mentorship. Through our youth programs, we have successfully been role models to our youth. Currently, Team Izzat is composed of: 21 board members from the RCMP and one member from the Vancouver Police Dpt Several Youth volunteers including a Volunteer Coordinator.

Team Izzat has formed partnerships with City Tv, Channel M, Richmond Review and other local media to change the negative portrayal of certain cultures. We encourage the Media to not glamouriz e drugs and violence in general.
